Questions, answered plainly.
What firms usually ask before they work with us: what you get, what you approve, and what happens to your list and your name. If yours isn't here, ask us directly.
The service
What does The Sourcier actually do?
You tell us who you want to meet. We assemble a team of sourciers, set them up to work as part of your firm, and they contact the people on your list by email and LinkedIn every working day. When someone agrees to talk, the meeting goes into your calendar with a short note on who they are and what they said.
The full process is on How it works.
Who are sourciers? Are they real people?
Yes. Each sourcier is a real person on our team, trained in professional outreach, with their own email address and LinkedIn profile. They read every reply and answer it themselves. We use good tools to stay organised, never to send messages nobody has looked at.
Who can you reach for us?
Anyone who stands between you and your next deal. Mainly business owners: the people who could sell you their company. Also investors such as family offices, LPs and co-investors, if you're raising for a fund or a deal, and intermediaries such as brokers and M&A advisers, if you want to be among the first to hear about deals.
Do sourciers phone people?
No. Sourciers work by email and LinkedIn only. Nobody on your list gets a cold phone call.
We tried an agency before and it felt like spam. How is this different?
Each sourcier contacts 15 new people a working day, not thousands. Each person hears from your firm a few times at most, four at the very most, and every message is easy to decline. Every reply is read and answered by a person.
And we count meetings you actually take, not opens, clicks or replies.
What exactly do we get?
Meetings in your calendar with people who have agreed to talk to you, each with a short note. Every month, a report from your lead sourcier: how many people were contacted, what they said, the meetings booked, what we're changing and how much of your list is left. Your lead sourcier goes through it with you.
Do you decide who we should target?
No. Your thesis is yours. We'll ask questions to make sure we understand it, and tell you what we learn from the replies, but you decide who should hear from you.
We don't have a target list yet. Can you still help?
Yes. List building is an add-on: we turn your thesis into a checked list, you approve it, and we keep it up to date as it's used. See List building.
Working together
Do we manage the sourciers?
No. Your lead sourcier runs onboarding, manages every sourcier on your account and is your one point of contact. They assign the work, review quality, and keep your team at the size you chose: if a sourcier is away or moves on, we cover it, with no change for you.
What do you need from us?
One onboarding session with your lead sourcier, where you also agree how your firm is represented on email and LinkedIn. Then your approval of the list and the messages, and your time for the meetings themselves. After launch you don't need to review day-to-day replies. Your lead sourcier brings you anything that needs a decision.
Will it sound like us?
Nothing goes out under your name until you've seen it. Before launch you approve the opening notes and follow-ups. How your firm appears on email and LinkedIn is agreed with your lead sourcier at onboarding. Sourciers are trained on your thesis, and each message is written for the person and business it goes to.
Will it wear out our market?
We're careful with it, because a small market remembers. Each person hears from your firm a few times at most, never more than four, and then we stop. Every message makes it easy to say no, and every "no" is honoured straight away. You can also leave out anyone you'd rather approach yourself: existing relationships, live processes, people you already know.
What happens when someone says "not now"?
Your sourcier thanks them, notes when it might make sense to come back, and passes that to you. Whether and when to follow up later is your call.
What is the first month like?
The first month is onboarding and testing. We set everything up, try different openings with your audience and refine the messages, so the months after run at full pace on what works. Your lead sourcier will tell you honestly how it's going from the first week.
Can we reach more people, or add a new thesis?
Yes. We add a sourcier who is already trained and set up. You don't hire, train or manage anyone. More reach comes from more sourciers, not more messages to the same people.
Why not just hire someone ourselves?
You can, and some firms should. A hire takes time to find, train and manage, and one person only goes so far. With us you get a team that is already trained, managed by someone else, and easy to grow or reduce.
Your name and your list
Whose name goes on the messages?
Yours. Outreach goes out under your firm's name, from email and LinkedIn set up by us or provided by you, and your sourciers appear as part of your team, as agreed with your lead sourcier at onboarding. Replies are handled for your firm, and anything worth acting on comes to you.
Will the people we contact know you're involved?
The messages come from your firm, not from us. We don't promise that nobody will ever learn that a team helps you, but we never name you as a client, publicly or to anyone else we work with.
Is our list ever shared with another client?
Never. Your list, whether you bring it or we build it for you, is used only for your firm. It is never shared with, or reused for, another client.
Do our sourciers work for other firms at the same time?
No. Each sourcier works for one client at a time. When a contract ends, they move on to another client.
What happens if we stop?
Your data and your conversations stay yours, and conversations in progress are handed over to you. Anything we set up for you, such as email domains and inboxes, can be transferred to you at cost. Otherwise it's closed down, as we don't keep it running after you leave.
More on Confidentiality.
Investors
Can you introduce us to investors?
Yes. Sourciers can open conversations with family offices, LPs and co-investors on your list, in the same way they approach owners. See Investor introductions.
Will sourciers pitch our fund or our deal?
No. Sourciers only ask whether someone would be open to a conversation with you. They never pitch terms, discuss an offer, give advice or handle money. Everything after the first meeting is between you and the investor.
Are we allowed to do this?
That depends on your firm, your fund and where you and your investors are. You confirm that your own rules allow this kind of outreach before we start, and you approve every message. Tell us about any limits and we'll work within them.
Do you take a fee on capital raised?
No. There are no introduction or success fees, for investors or owners. You pay per sourcier per month.
Pricing and terms
How is The Sourcier priced?
Per sourcier, per month. That covers your sourciers, your lead sourcier and the setup they work from. See Pricing.
Why do teams start at three sourciers?
Three lets us cover different parts of your target at once, test more openings quickly, and compare what works across sectors or audiences. It's the smallest team we think does the job properly.
Are there introduction or success fees?
No. You pay for the team, not per meeting or per deal.
Is list building included?
It's an add-on, for firms that don't have a list or need a new one for another thesis or region. See List building.
How long do we sign up for?
We'll set out the term clearly in your proposal before you commit, and go through it with you on a call.
