Privacy policy
What personal data we hold, why we hold it, and what you can ask us to do with it.
Effective date: [effective date]
Who we are
The Sourcier is a trading name of [company legal name], registered at [registered address] ("The Sourcier", "we", "us"). We provide deal-sourcing teams to private-markets firms (our "clients"): our sourciers contact business owners, investors and intermediaries on our clients' behalf, by email and LinkedIn, and arrange meetings with those who agree to talk.
This policy explains how we handle personal data in two situations: when you use this website or get in touch with us, and when we contact you on behalf of a client.
Visitors to this website
What we collect
- Scale plan requests. Your name, work email, firm, the kind of firm it is, what you're looking for, who you'd like to reach, the size of your list and how you reach people today.
- Contact form. Your name, work email, firm and your message.
- Booking a call. When you book through the scheduling tool on our site, the details you enter there (usually your name, email and the time you choose), and anything you add about your firm.
- Emails. If you write to us, your email address, the content of your message and any details you include.
- Technical data. Like any website, our hosting provider receives basic technical information when you visit, such as your IP address and browser type, to deliver and secure the site.
Why we use it
- To reply to you, prepare the scale plan you asked for, and hold the call you booked.
- To follow up about a possible engagement, if you've asked us about one.
- To keep the website running and secure.
We rely on our legitimate interests in responding to enquiries and running our business, or on steps you've asked us to take before entering into a contract. We don't add you to a mailing list unless you ask us to, and we never sell your data.
Cookies
This website uses only cookies and similar technologies that are strictly necessary for it to work. We don't use advertising cookies. We use privacy-friendly analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. It doesn't use cookies, doesn't build a profile of you, and doesn't track you across other websites.
Some parts of the site load content from third-party providers, such as web fonts and the scheduling tool on our booking page. When they load, those providers receive your IP address and may set their own cookies, under their own privacy policies.
People we contact on our clients' behalf
If one of our sourciers has written to you, it was on behalf of a specific client, under that client's name. This section explains what that means for your data.
What we hold
Business contact details and professional information: your name, role, company, business email address, LinkedIn profile, and publicly available information about your business. We also keep a record of the messages sent to you and any replies.
Where it comes from
- Lists provided by our client.
- Public and professional sources, such as company websites, public registers and professional networking profiles, when we build or check a list for a client.
- You, when you reply.
Why we use it
To contact you in a professional capacity about a possible conversation with our client, for example about the future of your business or an investment opportunity, and to arrange a meeting if you agree to one. We don't use your data for anything else, and we never use one client's list for another client.
Legal basis
Where data-protection law requires a legal basis, we generally rely on legitimate interests: our client's interest, and ours, in contacting relevant business people about relevant opportunities, balanced against your interests. We keep contact limited (a few messages at most), relevant to your professional role and easy to decline.
Who is responsible
Depending on the arrangement with each client, our client may decide why and how your data is used (acting as controller), with The Sourcier acting on their instructions (as processor); or we may share responsibility for parts of the work, such as building a list. If you'd like to know who is responsible for your data in a particular case, ask us and we'll tell you, or pass your request to the client concerned.
Saying no
Every message makes it easy to decline. If you say no, or ask not to be contacted, we stop straight away and record your request so you aren't contacted again on behalf of that client. You can also write to hello@thesourcier.com at any time.
How long we keep data
- Enquiries, scale plan requests and bookings: for as long as needed to respond and follow up, and then for [retention period] unless we go on to work together.
- People we contact for clients: for as long as needed for that client's work. When the work ends, data is returned to the client or deleted, depending on the arrangement.
- Opt-out records: we keep a minimal record (such as your name and email address) for as long as needed to make sure you aren't contacted again.
Who we share it with
We share personal data only as needed to do the work:
- With the client on whose behalf we contacted you, including your replies and any meeting you agree to.
- With service providers who support our business, such as website hosting, email, form handling, scheduling, data storage and list research. They act on our instructions and must protect the data.
- With professional advisers, or where the law requires it.
We never sell personal data, and we never share one client's list with another client.
International transfers
Some of our service providers, and some of our clients, may be based in other countries. Where personal data is transferred to a country without equivalent data-protection laws, we use appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, as required by [applicable data-protection law].
Security
We limit access to personal data to the people who need it for the work, and use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect it. No system is perfectly secure, but we take care with what we hold.
Your rights
Depending on where you are, you may have the right to:
- Ask what personal data we hold about you, and for a copy of it.
- Ask us to correct or delete it.
- Object to our use of it, including for contacting you, or ask us to restrict it.
- Ask for your data in a portable format.
- Complain to a data-protection authority, such as [relevant supervisory authority].
To use any of these rights, contact us using the details below. Where we act for a client, we may pass your request to them and help them respond.
